The evidence
Green tea polyphenols are heavily studied for antioxidant and cellular-protective effects across species. Canine-specific evidence is limited, so it belongs in a supplement as a supportive antioxidant at carefully controlled, decaffeinated doses — not as a home remedy from your teapot.
How it's used safely
Never give dogs brewed tea or caffeinated extracts — caffeine is toxic to dogs. In supplements, green tea appears only as a low-dose, decaffeinated polyphenol extract, measured in milligrams and balanced for body weight by the formulator. This is not a supplement to dose yourself at home.
When to skip it
